 John Cabell Breckinridge
Full Name: John Cabell Breckinridge
Born: Jan. 21, 1821 in Lexington, Kentucky
Died: May. 17, 1875 in Lexington, Kentucky

A member of a politically powerful family, John C. Breckinridge was a lawyer and politician from Kentucky who served in both houses of Congress before becoming, at age 36, the youngest-ever Vice President of the United States in 1857. (He served under President James Buchanan.)

Breckinridge was serving in the Senate at the outbreak of the Civil War but was expelled after he joined the Confederate Army. Late in the war he was appointed Confederate Secretary of War.
