George M. Dallas served as Mayor of Philadelphia (1828-29) and U.S. Senator (1831-33) before becoming the 11th Vice President of the United States (1845-1849), in the Democratic administration of President James K. Polk. (Note: There was also a Pennsylvania judge named George M. Dallas, born in 1839.)
